Got my edition of Woodturning magazine delivered this morning, and leafing through before the full read, I scanned the readers’ submissions – as one does.
There we are on page 9: a burr oak vase. Very nice too.
I think my next purchase will have to be some kind of hollowing system to allow me to make a nice vase form.
My last attempt was a nightmare, and flew off the lathe when turning the spigot off’f the bottom.
The inside was horrible using a bowl gouge and round-nose scraper. I couldn’t get the tool rest inside the piece, and both tools were resting on the ferrule as I tried to get the lower parts of the inside cleaned out.
I’ve not seen the mag yet it’s probably on my desk.
When you start looking at hollowing tools give me a shout if I have not done an article on them by then, I’ve been playing around with four different types so I’ll be able to let you know the strong points and the weakness’s of them.
